Slowly but surely

March 5, 2008

I finally did it. What a pain in the ass, though. Anyway, a picture of me and my cat in wilds of Australia appears on my profile page on this blog. It’s weird, though. I brought in a friend to help me and she couldn’t do it. Then a person who happened to be in the room with us overheard the problems we were having and she tried to help too. Together, we managed to pull it off, but what a major hassle it was.

Slowly but surely, I’m getting it, but it’s taking way too long. I don’t want to drop this class but if I can’t catch up, I may have no choice.

No pics, no work

March 1, 2008

When it comes to writing, I can always come up with something to say. It may not have much to do with anything, but it’s something to say. So here I sit today, with nothing to say. I came in here in the hopes of spiffing up my blog site so that I could get my assignments done. One of the assignments is to get three pics and layer them onto the homepage of this weblog. So I thought I’d be clever and email the pics from my home email address to my student email address. I thought it would be easier to access them that way, easier to move them into photoshop where I could mess around with them until they were together enough to put into my weblog. Little did I know that, for some mysterious reason, I can’t access my own webmail from a campus computer. So, no pics, no work.

I was even going to put the pics on a disk and download them into photoshop, but I thought, nah, emailing is so much easier. Next time, I will do that.

I’m really trying to change my attitude toward computers. I know it’s bad and that a bad attitude accomplishes little, but when I run into stuff like this (that I can’t get into my own fucking email) it just pisses me off all the more. I just want to get this work done but every time I make a move I encounter a wall. If all I had to do was write, I’d be a happy guy. Writing I can do.

Something to kill time with

February 1, 2008

Okay. Since I don’t have a clue about any of this, I might as well kill time in this class by writing a real entry. Here’s the deal: I’m not thrilled with computers in the first place. I can always think of something I would rather do than sit at a computer terminal and surf or chat or play games or whatever else people do. I don’t like computers for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that they are not people, who I would much rather deal with. Another reason is that every time I try to do something on a computer, it backfires on me. I don’t think this is fun at all. It doesn’t encourage future use on my part, and it really kills any enthusiasm that I might have mustered up.

The one thing I really like about computers is that they are word processers. I’m such a lousy typist that if all I had was a typewriter, I’d constantly be retyping in a failed attempt to get it right. With MSWord, that is never a problem. Errors can be detected and corrected later. This is a great thing. Otherwise, I’ve never been that interested in all the wonderful ways a computer can improve my life.

Before I go, I just want to say that I know I’m in a very small minority here. The whole world is thrilled with their computers, and I’m the only person I know who really kind of wishes, against reason, that they would all just crash.

More later…..
